Meet Danya Humaideh
If you have attended an AIA Birmingham Chapter meeting, you have already met Danya Humaideh.  She is AIA Birmingham’s part time executive assistant.  Danya is a student at UAB studying Marketing and Mass Communications.
Danya will be writing a new article for the newsletter, Featured Architect of the Month.

Don Morrison at
Gimme Shelter

Featured Architect of the Month
Donald Morrison of Morrison Scheirer Architects PC
by Danya Humaideh
Where and when did you graduate from architecture school and when did you become a registered architect?
“I graduated in 1956 from Auburn University and became registered in 1964.”
Why did you want to become an architect?
“I took an aptitude test and the results said that I should either be a surgeon or an architect. I knew I wanted to do something with my hands and that I did not want to be a surgeon; I always did like to draw so I chose architecture.”
What is the biggest difference in practicing architecture today vs. when you started?“The biggest change has been the technology. When I started, everyone used the triangles and t-squares to draw with.”
What changes, both good and bad, have you seen in AIA since you were president in 1967?
“It just seemed like everyone did more as a group. I would really like to see the younger architects and interns get more involved. I was really impressed with the work that the interns did for Barkitecture. They did a really good job.”

Deadline to Join the Summit Club – August 3rd!!
We had a great time at The Summit Club for our July Chapter meeting.  We hope you enjoyed the luncheon so much you will join too!  Call today and find out about the many benefits you can enjoy as a member of The Summit Club.
We hope you will consider this great opportunity.  Membership in The Summit Club is by invitation only. As Members (Rob Walker & Rhea Williams) of The Summit Club, we have been authorized by the club’s Board to invite members of the AIA to join The Summit Club through a special Membership initiative. As part of this privileged invitation, the Summit Club will consider the customary $1200 initiation fee satisfied by accepting a $150 check made out to the Birmingham Architectural Foundation for our scholarship fund and a $75 application  fee for the Summit Club together with the Summit Club Membership application.  Monthly dues apply. This is your one chance your membership initiation fee will be tax deductible since the check is written to the Birmingham Architectural Foundation and it is a non profit organization.  All of the membership initiation fee money will go directly into scholarships for 2008 applicants.
This is a tremendous opportunity to support the Birmingham Architectural Foundation's scholarship mission while joining The Summit Club with a substantial initiation fee reduction.
