Did You Receive Your Invitation to The Summit Club Yet??
You should have received your invitation to join The Summit Club in the mail by now.  We hope you will consider this great opportunity.  Membership in The Summit Club is by invitation only. As Members (Rob Walker & Rhea Williams) of The Summit Club, we have been authorized by the club’s Board to invite members of the AIA to join The Summit Club through a special Membership initiative. As part of this privileged invitation, the Summit Club will consider the customary $1200 initiation fee satisfied by accepting a $150 check made out to the Birmingham Architectural Foundation for our scholarship fund and a $75 application  fee for the Summit Club together with the Summit Club Membership application.  Monthly dues apply. This is your one chance your membership initiation fee will be tax deductible since the check is written to the Birmingham Architectural Foundation and it is a non profit organization.  All of the membership initiation fee money will go directly into scholarships for 2008 applicants.
This is a tremendous opportunity to support the Birmingham Architectural Foundation's scholarship mission while joining The Summit Club with a substantial initiation fee reduction.
Come to the July Chapter meeting to see what you think about The Summit Club.

STUDIO I – Where Did YOU Go to College? winningdesign
Summer’s end is rapidly approaching and you know what that means.  Studio Interactive is ramping up its ’07 – ’08 season and we need you.  This is a call to all architects and those affiliated with the AIA Birmingham chapter to get involved in shaping young minds for the good of mankind.  We are looking for people to be involved immediately in the planning of this season’s Studio i schedule, as well as people committed to being involved in the monthly Saturday morning meetings.   This season we are going to try some new things, such as introducing a different Architecture School at each meeting.  For this to be successful we will need someone who has attended the particular school to present the program at the meetings.  Another idea we are hoping that you can help us out with is the recycling of your Architectural Records for the students.  We know there are those out there that collect them and have them in order by date on the shelf, but then there are those of you who just throw them out or stack them in a corner to collect dust.  These magazines would be great inspirations to the young minds that attend our Studio I meetings and charets, and we would love to take them off your hands.
Mike Gibson with Paul Krebs & Associates is our new Studio I Director and we are excited about him taking this new responsibility.
We would like to thank Carrie Johnson for organizing Studio I and for all of her time, energy and creativity to get Studio I where it is today. We appreciate all your hard work.
We have so many members who volunteer their time.  It would take the entire newsletter to recognize all the members who have volunteered for this program.
Feel free to volunteer at any time!

2007 Design Awards Gala – What a Celebration!
Our Design Awards Gala was FUN!  Everyone agrees this was our best Design Awards Gala.  232 architects (and their dates/husbands/wives) and sponsors attended the event this year.  We had 38 entries and 9 awards were given.
This was also our first year to present the Accolade Award.  This award was presented to Neil King who has devoted countless hours on the building code for years.
We would like to thank our Design Awards committee Stephen Allen, David Blackmon, Brian DiRusso, Susan Lineberry, Amanda Moore and Derrick Owens who volunteered many hours to make this event happen. (gala photo gallery)
