The man also had 36 additional emergency room visits. Most of his hospital admissions were because his heart deteriorated due to inability to pay for and take his required cardiovascular medications. He accrued $334,275 in hospital charges, the cost of which is born entirely by the taxpayers of Jefferson County.

Another reason not to miss this year’s AIA Design Awards Gala…
Sam Cornman, sculptor of Poetic Meditation and Zach Wickham, two local glass blowers are designing each centerpiece for the tables.
Sam studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of American Crafts where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Art in Glass Sculpture and Glass Blowing.  He has also studied at the Museum and the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.
Drawing inspiration from the infinite realms of life to galaxies of far away to the depths of the deep blue sea, Sam creates sculptures combining the techniques of glass flame working and glass blowing.  During the creation process Sam reflects upon such moments through meditative thought recollection while dancing with hot glass and fire.  Contemplating what has been experienced he transforms objects, thoughts, and emotions into poetic creations.
Zach Wickham was born in Elma, New York.  He received his bachelors of fine arts degress from the New York State School of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred New York in 2004.  He is currently working at BearCreek Glass.

Birmingham Home & Garden and ALNO Invite You To A Luncheon
Thursday, May 3, 2007. European Kitchen of Alabama. 11:00 a.m.
THE GREENING OF THE AMERICAN KITCHEN or “Global Warming is Haute”
Modern kitchen design is not just about form; it is a process that integrates technology, function and the aesthetic into a single thought.  Today, this process has evolved further with the increased awareness of environmental concerns as well as a new appreciation for our natural resources and the impact that we, as individuals, have on the world around us.

Shunning wasteful habits of the past, we must now give thoughtful consideration to the future.  Architects and designers who once utilized materials and technologies without a thought to the impact on the environment around them, now we must make choices out of necessity and consequence, utilizing materials that are natural, reusable, abundant, renewable and long of life.

The average American kitchen is responsible for 30% of home energy consumption…How can we be better “eco-warriors” and can we do as individuals to conserve energy and lower our environmental impact on the world around us.

Lecturer, writer, eco-warrior, Mr Kevin M Henry is the CEO of ALNO USA, the North American marketing arm of ALNO AG, Europe’s premiere kitchen manufacturer.  Mr Henry is one of the key figures in the luxury kitchen movement and has been involved in the evolution and development of this niche industry for over 25 years.  Mr Henry is an award winning kitchen designer in his own right and is well known in the industry for his strategic marketing insights and brand development skills.  With a strong background in design, manufacturing, sales and marketing, Mr Henry brings a unique and all encompassing perspective to the big picture.
